Fairhaven Housing Association is pleased to announce that planning permission has been granted to construct a further eight two-bedroom bungalows at our hugely popular Crownlee development in Penwortham, Preston.

The project, scheduled to commence in August 2021, will deliver high quality retirement properties for people aged over 55.

Crownlee already enjoys an excellent reputation as one the leading retirement housing sites in Preston and the surrounding area. Not only can it boast to be one of the first dedicated retirement bungalow complexes in the country, but the appeal and charm of the original design has stood the test of time. The development currently enjoys such demand that the existing 40 bungalows often sell without entering the market.

The site boasts a private community centre, which as part of the project, will receive significant investment to upgrade its communal and restaurant facilities. In addition to which residents have the benefit of dedicated scheme management.

The quiet suburban location provides excellent local amenities and the bungalows sit within open, well-manicured communal gardens and expansive lawns.

Fairhaven have worked in conjunction with leading architects, Cassidy + Ashton, who have provided their expertise in respect of bungalow design and securing planning consent. It is fitting that Cassidy and Ashton worked on this project as they were responsible for the original design of Crownlee.

Alistair Baines, chairman at Cassidy + Ashton and head architect on the project said: “As the designers of the original Crownlee development, Cassidy + Ashton is really pleased to have the opportunity to continue our longstanding association with Fairhaven which spans nearly 40 years.”

“This new development resonates with our philosophy of making better and healthier environments for people to live in and to support local communities.”

Whilst the design of the new bungalows will not deviate too far from the original, much sought after properties, it will incorporate the most modern methods of design, construction and thermal efficiency.

Each of the new bungalows will enjoy open living spaces, views over the beautifully landscaped gardens, private patios, two spacious double bedrooms and off-road parking. In addition to which they will benefit from ample storage for mobility scooters and belongings.

The development is to be delivered by Barnfield Group Ltd who boast an exceptional record and are arguably one of premier developers within Lancashire. Tim Webber MBE, Managing Director of Barnfield said:

“We are delighted to be working with Andrew and his team. As a leading developer and contractor in North West, we are always keen to forge new partnerships and look forward to re-defining the concept of retirement living in Central Lancashire. Embedding sustainability and renewable technologies, these properties will not only be built to the highest of standards but also be very efficient to operate.”

Andrew Atkinson, Managing Director of Fairhaven, said; “we are very proud to be able to bring this development forward. Crownlee is a much loved and sought after development, therefore the addition of these new properties will help meet local demand by providing first class housing which promotes independence and well-being in later life. What’s more we are extremely proud to partner two leading North West firms in order to deliver this project”.
